I'm a Dutch festival-goer with 50+ events across Europe. Every year I ran into the same problem. My friends weren't always into the same genres. And the existing apps — Radiate, Tinder Festival Mode — matched by looks or location instead of what actually matters: music taste. So I built the thing I wanted.
FestivalMates is built with Next.js and Supabase, powered by Spotify's Web API. Every compatibility score comes from real listening data — no self-reported interests, no guessing.

Why music taste?
Most social apps match you based on a profile you write yourself — but self-reported interests are unreliable. Everyone says they like “a bit of everything.”
Music taste is the strongest compatibility signal for festival friendships. Your Spotify data doesn't lie. When someone listens to the same DJs you do, you already have something real in common — before you've ever spoken.
Your Mate Score is calculated for every pair: 60% from shared top artists, 40% from shared genres. Share 3 or more artists and you get a bonus. Scores range from “Good Vibes” (60%+) through “Festival Twins” (75%+) to “Soul Mates” (90%+).
